Want a feeder that stands out in your coop — and catches your chickens’ attention?

The Big Red is the same trusted Large Feeder that more than 80,000 chicken keepers rely on, in a bold all-red colorway. Same capacity, same waste-reducing design, same rain hood — just a look that stands out and a color poultry are naturally drawn to. If you want your setup to look as good as it works, this is the one.

How does The Big Red work?

Same mechanism as the standard Large Feeder. Easy to refill — just turn the handle on the lid to lift it off, pour in feed, and twist it back on. Feed gravity-feeds into a hooded base opening. The hood gives your hens room to eat comfortably, but the shape prevents the raking and flicking motion that scatters feed onto the ground. A built-in rain hood channels water away from the opening, keeping feed dry outdoors. No moving parts, no training — your chickens start eating within minutes.

What size flock is The Big Red for?

The 8 lb capacity suits flocks of around 6–8 hens. It holds about 8 lb (3.7 kg) of feed — about 5–7 days’ worth on quality complete pellets. Enough to leave your flock for a long weekend without worrying about feed. Browse all Dine-A-Chook chicken feeders to find the right size for your setup.

Prefer the classic white? The Large Feeder does the same job.

What’s in the box?

Feeder with twist-on lid, 2 steel mounting brackets, 4 self-tapping screws, and an installation guide. Mounts directly to wood — ready to install, no extra parts needed.

Mounting to wire mesh? Contact us about the stainless wire mesh mounting kit before you order.

What feed should I use with The Big Red?

Works well with quality complete feed — crumble or pellets. These give your hens balanced nutrition in every bite and reduce selective eating. Grain mixes let hens pick their favorites and miss essential nutrients.

If the feed level looks low in the tray, that’s by design — it keeps feed away from edges so your hens can’t flick it out. Try the finger test: push your finger into the opening. If you can move the feed, your chickens can reach it.

Why is The Big Red built to last?

Made from UV-resistant ASA plastic — the same material as the white version, engineered to resist color fading and UV degradation. The red is part of the plastic itself, not a coating, so it won’t peel, chip, or wash off. Every component is injection molded in Brisbane and assembled in Townsville. No moving parts means nothing to jam, seize, or break. Backed by a 3-year warranty, and shipped free to the USA with import duties prepaid.

Q. What’s different about The Big Red?
A. The Big Red is the same Large Feeder in an all-red colorway. Same 8 lb capacity, same waste-reducing hooded base, same mounting system, same rain hood. The only difference is the color — bold red from lid to base.
Q. Why is The Big Red priced differently from the white feeder?
A. The all-red ASA plastic is a separate color production run. Any price difference reflects the color manufacturing, not any difference in function. If you are choosing purely on price, the white Large Feeder does exactly the same job.
Q. Does the red color attract chickens?
A. Poultry are naturally drawn to the color red — it’s one of the reasons red waterers and feeders are popular with experienced keepers. While every flock is different, many keepers find their hens approach a red feeder with more curiosity and confidence. It is a genuine characteristic of chicken behavior, though every flock is different.
Q. What feed should I use with The Big Red?
A. Quality complete feed — crumble or pellets — gives your hens balanced nutrition in every bite and reduces selective eating. Grain mixes let hens pick their favorites and miss essential nutrients, so a quality complete feed is the better choice. If the feed level looks low in the tray, that’s by design — the finger test: if you can move the feed in the opening, your chickens can reach it.
Q. Will the red color fade in the sun?
A. The feeder is made from UV-resistant ASA plastic — the same material used in the white version. ASA is specifically engineered to resist color fading from UV exposure. The red is part of the plastic, not a surface coating, so it won’t peel, chip, or wash off.
Q. Will The Big Red stop rats?
A. The feeder is designed to reduce what attracts rodents, not to seal them out. By keeping feed contained and off the ground, it removes one of the main attractants for rodents. If you’re dealing with a persistent rodent problem, contact us and we will help you work through it.
